Charles the Rash had recently captured Granson, and in an attempt to frighten the Swiss, he had all of the captured hanged. This enraged the Swiss (themselves noted for taking no prisoners), and they attacked with fury. The Swiss easily withstood the cavalry charges of the Burgundians, and then charged the Burgundian line. The Burgudians had no stomach for this, and broke and fled.
It is in honor of this battle, that we have named our latest sword. By the later part of the 15th century, heavier swords with flat cross sections and multiple fullers had become popular. While still ineffective against knights in full plate, they were effective against the lighter armed troops.
We have copied a sword located in Copenhagen and it is a magnificent weapon. Probably carried by a wealthy mercenary or noble, it is an effective example of this period. High carbon steel blade. Grip, pommel and crossguard are all brass.
